Federal Pell grants are available to help matriculated undergraduate students who have no prior undergraduate degrees. Application for this type of financial aid is done by filling out and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Basic eligibility requirements must be met, as determined by the federal government. Only students with the greatest financial need will receive these grants.
During the 2013-14 academic year, Federal Pell Grants for full-time students range from $574 to $5,645 depending upon the expected family contribution and Congressional funding.

Once degree requirements are met for a first undergraduate degree, students are no longer eligible for PELL Grant or SEOG funding. Students are eligible for Federal Direct Loans if they have not reached their undergraduate aggregate loan limit.
Effective with the 2012-13 award year -- With the passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, eligibility to receive a federal Pell grant is limited to 12 semesters (or its equivalent) for all undergraduate, eligible students and includes all years of the student's receipt of federal Pell grant funding.
