BU PREP Workshops

Please check our upcoming workshops and events calendar for more details.

Each semester, the Graduate Community of Scholars (GCOS) will organize 6-8 graduate level workshops in addition to other activities and informal events that are geared toward the professional development and career aspirations of graduate students.

These workshops are designed around the Binghamton University PREP model, a program that was first established by Michigan State University. The BU_PREP model revolves around four themes and competencies that are expected of every graduate student:

Planning:

Skills that emphasize time management and proper planning throughout a student’s graduate career that eventually translate into greater academic and professional success.

Resilience:

Strategies that promote endurance in graduate school enabling students to succeed in both their personal and professional lives.

Engagement:

Strategies that promote active involvement in career-related tasks, networking, community service, and making important life decisions as key to attaining career goals.

Professionalism:

Skills that emphasize responsible conduct in teaching and research and maintaining the highest professional standards.

Unless noted otherwise, these workshops are free and open to all graduate students at Binghamton University. The completion of the BU_PREP survey at the beginning of each semester will help you identify any gaps in your PREP skills thus enabling a better selection of workshops that you will be attending during the course of the semester. All Clark and NSF-AGEP eligible fellows are strongly encouraged to attend these workshops. Those enrolled in the GRD592 course must attend at least four workshops (or related events) per semester.

Listed below are typical BU PREP workshops offered throughout the year.
