about the foundation

Message from the Foundation Board Chair

We can be proud that Binghamton University continues to receive national recognition as a center for excellence in public higher education, research and teaching. We can also be proud of the role the Binghamton University Foundation has had in helping the University achieve objectives through philanthropic contributions directed toward the campus.

Less than a decade ago, the Foundation completed the University’s first-ever comprehensive gifts campaign. It exceeded its original goal by 20 percent one year earlier than anticipated, raising $43.7 million for the benefit of the campus. Not only did the campaign raise funds, it raised our constituents' sights regarding the power of charitable gifts. It proved that charitable gifts are not just needed, but are essential for a state-assisted program.

In order to achieve our new milestones, it will be important for the Foundation to have a road map that builds on the success of our first campaign and our advancement program. We have just completed a comprehensive planning process that reflects the ideas, goals, vision and commitment of our alumni and friends. Our collective desire is to create a future that will garner increased private financial support for the advancement of the University.

This plan will be reviewed each year by Foundation leaders to ensure it continues to meet the University's needs. Through your personal investment of resources and time, the Foundation will be even more successful in the years to come. Thank you for your support and we welcome your comments.

Sincerely,

Lawrence J. Schorr '75, MA '77
