A Message From The Dean

For over 65 years, Binghamton University has committed talent and resources to improving lives in the Greater Binghamton area. In 2006, the University took its commitment to a new level, constructing a stunning University Downtown Center in the heart of downtown Binghamton and creating the College of Community and Public Affairs to occupy it.

The CCPA trains students to be public and nonprofit leaders, social workers and shapers of institutions of higher education. We teach them how to make a positive difference in the lives of others and revitalize the organizations and governments serving the area’s citizens.

Our students and faculty work with local institutions to research ways to make local communities more effective, creating new partnerships, new expertise and new approaches. This research not only improves lives in the area but has broad and important implications for other cities, for the state, and for organizations everywhere as they try to deliver services more effectively with fewer resources.

All of us in the CCPA love being downtown and continuing the mission of Binghamton University, carrying it directly into the community. We strongly believe that the University and the CCPA are vital to upgrading our communities, large and small. With your support, the CCPA will become a national model not only for cutting-edge research and teaching, but also for educating the next generation of thoughtful, caring and effective leaders — people whose ideas and spirit will imbue policies and practices that benefit us all.
