The Vision of Intercollegiate Athletics
The Bearcats will compete consistently in the national arena, achieving dynamic exposure for Binghamton University while attracting the best and brightest recruits from across the country. Our student-athletes strive to finish first — for themselves, for their university, and for their community. our Athletics program seeks private support for the following priorities:
Binghamton University currently offers less than two-thirds of the scholarship money allowed by NCAA guidelines, which means outstanding Binghamton-bound student-athletes often elect to compete for institutions able to offer full athletic scholarships instead. To compete with our peer institutions, we seek substantial funding to increase scholarship opportunities for Bearcats student-athletes.
Strengthening Team Support
When our athletes compete in the national arena, they represent Binghamton in front of a broad audience. They need to be outfitted with the right equipment to enable them to compete effectively; they need to arrive well rested and ready to do their best; and they need to be able to travel safely and comfortably to other campuses. Contributions to the Binghamton Fund for Athletics can help fulfill these needs.
Enhancing Athletic/Academic Services
The Athletic Student-Athlete Success Center serves as the primary resource for academic counseling, tutoring, life skills counseling and career/internship advisement for Binghamton’s hundreds of student-athletes. Improved funding of the Success Center will enhance service and guidance for student-athletes who need additional help to excel in the academically challenging environment of Binghamton University.
Supporting Academic Success
Binghamton is committed to the academic and personal development of its student-athletes and proud of their ability to blend outstanding athletic performance with high-level academic achievement. In 2006, the University opened the Student-Athlete Success Center, delivering a variety of support services to help student-athletes achieve excellence in their academic pursuits. Additional staffing will help these students make the most of their Binghamton education as they prepare for career success after graduation.
We have invested significant capital in the Events Center and the Bearcats Sports Complex. We must continue to maintain and improve our facilities so we can provide a safe and attractive environment where our student-athletes can practice and compete. Among our priorities are installing turf, lights, and new dugouts and seating at the baseball field; relocating and upgrading the softball field; and resurfacing the tennis courts. Our athletic facilities are the focal point for many campus visitors; it is important they reflect the quality of Binghamton University.
