A Message from the Dean

From advances in alternative energy to smarter materials and more secure information handling, today’s scientists and engineers are expected to tackle some of the most critical challenges facing our society. It takes innovation and initiative to transform ideas into practical products, to redesign existing products to make them more reliable and affordable, and to design the packaging and delivery systems that ensure these products are a daily convenience. At the Watson School, our students will shape the solutions for our future, and we are committed to preparing each of them, from freshman to doctoral candidate, to analyze the world and apply technology that will substantially impact and improve lives.

The Watson School opens students’ eyes to possibilities. We foster an environment of creative thinking, teamwork and ingenuity in classrooms and laboratories while remaining rooted in the fundamental skills our graduates will need to be industry leaders. Classroom learning is only one component of a Watson School education.

Most important is the experience our students gain through side-by-side collaboration with industry partners scrutinizing and solving real-world problems. Industry partnerships — local and national — are a hallmark of the Watson School and provide invaluable experience for our students. This collaborative learning environment ensures that our students are on the cutting edge of science and technology while supporting efforts to create and retain jobs and assist with economic development.

Watson School students are prepared for the opportunities that the future holds. Our graduates actively embrace the technology advancements of today and are ready to usher our world into the technologies of tomorrow. With initiative and an entrepreneurial spirit, the Watson School is making our ever-more-globalized world more inspiring each and every day.
