Even after their deaths in 2012, Dr. Orville F. Nielsen and his wife, Emily A. Nielsen, continue to help Binghamton University students fulfill their dreams. Their estate gift of $1 million will be used to foster academic and student excellence. Previous gifts fund scholarships in nursing, music and theatre.

  • "The scholarship provides encouragement and reinforcement. It makes me feel that I've really improved and that I'm on my way." — Joseph Keller '15, double major in music and mathematics, and recipient of the Emily A. Nielsen and Orville F. Nielsen, MD Music Scholarship in Honor of Associate Professor Mary Burgess.
  • "The theatre program definitely changed my life for the better. I was introduced to this creativity I didn't know I had. The scholarship is a great help financially. Being recognized for your work is also a boost." — Emely Zepeda '13, theatre major and recipient of the Emily A. Nielsen and Orville F. Nielsen, MD Scholarship in Music and Theatre.
