Giving Matters

You likely have many questions about giving, including why it’s important and if it even matters. Well, it is important, and it does matter.

Why is giving important?

About 80 percent of you qualify for need-based financial aid and more than likely you’ve also benefited from one of the 218 merit-based scholarships, 123 awards or 19 fellowships awarded through the Binghamton University Foundation. Combined with internships, graduate-travel support and emergency loans, the Foundation provides nearly $1.5 million in aid each year to deserving Binghamton students like you.

Just as important, giving supports the development of new academic programs, research centers and study-abroad programs. While funding from the state pays for the construction and renovation of our buildings, purchasing state-of-the-art equipment for classrooms and laboratories is up to us.

Finally, these funds help to recruit and retain internationally respected faculty at the forefront of their disciplines to guide and challenge you and your fellow students throughout your education.

Will my gift matter?

You may think you can’t afford to give; however, philanthropy has no requirements. It’s merely an inclination to support the development of humankind, and every little bit helps. Your gift will help provide all students the same quality education and life-changing moments you’re experiencing at Binghamton.

How do I give?

There are various ways to give and all are essential. You can designate your gift to a particular scholarship, college or program, or to the Binghamton Fund so your gift will go where it’s most needed. You can also volunteer your time, or you can work for the Telefund by becoming a student caller, earning money while obtaining donations and pledges to help the University.

If you’d like to be involved, but don’t know how you can best support Binghamton, contact us or stop by the Foundation. We’d love to talk with you and help find the right giving outlet for you.
