Online tutorials to assist with development of courses

Instructional Design - This tutorial introduces you to "instructional design" or the systematic development of high quality instruction. It includes analysis of learning needs and goals, analysis of the delivery system to meet those needs, development of instructional materials and activities, and process of tryout and evaluation of instruction. Based on modern learning and teaching theory, it is full of practical suggestions that you can immediately apply for development of your courses. This tutorial has 21 modules and takes approximately 9 hours, or on average 25 minutes per module (range 10-45 minutes). You can complete the modules at your own pace. If you have had no or little pedagogical instruction, you need this tutorial. Even if you have significant pedagogical training and experience teaching, we think that you will find the tutorial helpful.

Intellectual Character - This tutorial is designed to show you how to develop "intellectual character" in your students. The "intellectual character" approach broadens students' perspectives by deep reflection, challenges them to think critically, and pushes them to express themselves thoughtfully, clearly and creatively. The tutorial has lots of practical suggestions for how to foster intellectual character through your courses. We think that you and your students will not only benefit by the "intellectual character" approach but also really enjoy it as well. This tutorial has 20 modules and takes approximately 8 hours, or on average 25 minutes per module (range of 10-45 minutes). You can complete the modules at your own pace. Give it a try!
