Binghamton University's graduate certificate programs allow you to develop specialized expertise to complement your main area of study, advance your career and stand out to employers. Programs are available for students already enrolled in a graduate degree program as well as for professionals who hold a bachelor's or master's degree and wish to enhance their professional development.
See below for the following information:
"Stand-alone" certificates are available to applicants who already hold the appropriate bachelor's or master's degree, as well to currently enrolled, matriculated graduate students at Binghamton University (see desired program for details). A graduate certificate application must be submitted for the following certificate programs, along with the required credentials.
"Add-On" certificates are available to students already enrolled in degree-granting graduate programs at Binghamton University.
Also available to students already enrolled in degree-granting graduate programs at Binghamton University, certificates of completion are non-credit-bearing and typically require an internship, workshop participation and a portfolio.
*The requirements and admissions process for the Certificates of Completion may vary; please carefully review program details.
All students seeking a graduate certificate must be admitted or enrolled either to an existing graduate degree program or as a non-degree student at Binghamton University. Funding is not available to non-degree students completing certificate programs.
Important note: Certificate students are not automatically admitted to master's or doctoral programs. They must meet the admissions requirements of those degree programs and be accepted. Students may concurrently apply for a certificate and a Binghamton University graduate degree program. However, a student cannot be awarded a certificate twice, nor can a student apply work for one certificate to a different certificate.
Some programs, especially stand-alone certificates in nursing and education, require additional application material. Make sure to check the academic department's or program's admission details carefully.
To apply to a stand-alone certificate, you must complete an Embark application. If you are already a matriculated graduate student at Binghamton, you may apply to one of the university's add-on certificate programs using the add-on certificate application form.
