Students who have earned their bachelor's degree and wish to take courses without entering a degree program must apply to the Graduate School for non-degree study.

Please note: Some programs limit admission to certain specified classes. It is your responsibility to verify that courses are available for the semester in which you apply. Contact the academic department with your specific class/registration questions.
Non-degree students must complete the non-degree application and be admitted to The Graduate School in order to register for and attend classes.

We recommend you begin the application process at least one month before you seek to enroll in specific coursework. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. Late applicants will not be allowed to attend classes and instead should reapply for future semesters.

Non-degree students pay graduate tuition for graduate-level courses, and undergraduate tuition for undergraduate-level courses. They pay graduate student fees whether they take graduate or undergraduate courses. Go to the Student Accounts website to view current tuition and fee rates, and visit the funding policies page for information on financial assistance from the university.
Limited financial aid is available to non-degree students. To apply for financial aid through FAFSA, you will need to fill out the appropriate forms to verify your non-matriculated status.
Non-degree graduate students may take up to 12 credits total, though some academic departments and schools limit that number further. Any credits taken beyond the 12-credit limit as a non-degree student will not be counted toward earning a degree, should you later matriculate into a graduate degree program.
Students who wish to take more than 12 credits as a non-degree student must sign and submit the Graduate School's Lifelong Learner Contract before they will be able to register for any credits beyond 12.
Degrees and graduate assistantships are not granted to non-degree students.
If you later decide that you would like to pursue a graduate degree or certificate at Binghamton University, The Graduate School welcomes your application. Depending on the curriculum requirements of a program, some courses taken as a non-degree student may be applied toward a degree. View The Graduate School Manual for details.
Admission to a graduate degree program or certificate requires an application to The Graduate School, formal acceptance, and enrollment. Taking courses as a non-matriculated student does not guarantee admission to a degree-granting program.
