The Binghamton Area

Binghamton Map

Located in New York's Southern Tier, an area known for its river valleys and gentle mountains, the Binghamton area offers an inspiring landscape and lively urban environment that's easy to navigate. Binghamton University's suburban and downtown campuses are just minutes from Binghamton's downtown, as well as the neighboring communities of Vestal, Endicott and Johnson City. Graduate students also appreciate the close proximity to the following major cities:

One-Hour Drive

Three-Hour Drive

Five-Hour Drive

Ithaca, NY

New York City

Washington D.C

Scranton, PA

Philadelphia, PA

Boston, MA

Syracuse, NY

Montreal and Toronto, Canada

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Binghamton has a fine regional opera company and symphony, and the University sponsors a wide variety of music, dance and theater performances. In addition, if you want to visit some of the nation's best museums and theaters, there are relatively inexpensive weekend packages (bus and hotel) to New York City.

RECREATION & WEATHER

On the edge of the state's snow belt, Binghamton experiences moderate summers, breathtakingly beautiful spring and fall seasons, and cold, snowy winters ideal for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. If you enjoy outdoor recreation, there are a wide variety of state, county and city parks for hiking, biking, skiing and picnicking, including a 900-acre nature preserve on campus. In the summer and fall, visit one of the many local berry farms and apple orchards to pick fresh produce. You can also watch Binghamton University's Division 1 Bearcats basketball teams in our Events Center, as well as Double A baseball and AHL hockey in downtown Binghamton.
