Lyceum is a "lifetime-learning association" for adult learners over 50 years of age. Affiliated with Binghamton University and Road Scholar (formally known asĀ  Elderhostel), it has over 600 local members. Lyceum members want to keep their minds active by adding to their knowledge of themselves and the world around them.

Lyceum offers its students an opportunity to learn from and among peers. Classes are held during the day and typically run for a maximum of four weeks. Some courses are designed for listeners, while the majority of classes allow for and encourage discussion and participation. Course leaders are usually retired specialists or members who as "amateurs" have pursued interests in some depth.

In addition to classes, ethnic dinners provide opportunities to socialize and sample foods from other countries and cultures.

We encourage members to help make Lyceum a participatory organization by sharing in policy-making, proposing courses and assisting in class arrangements and refreshments.

See Lyceum Courses for a catalog of courses offered this semester.
(Confidential scholarship assistance is available for membership and class fees. Contact the Lyceum coordinator for more information.)
