
Fellowships generally include a tuition scholarship and a stipend, with awards made to students newly admitted for the Fall semester. Scholarships are awards, usually modest in amount, for tuition or other expenses.Fellowships and Scholarships available to GSE students are described below.
The Clifford D. Clark Graduate Fellowship Program for Diversity. The Clifford D. Clark Graduate Fellowship for Diversity, named for a former president of the university (1975-1990), is funded by the State University of New York and an endowment fund. Clark Fellowships are merit-based and designed to recruit and support students who contribute to the diversity of the student body. The Clark Fellowship includes an academic year stipend, full tuition scholarship, health insurance, a guaranteed award period (with satisfactory academic progress), research and travel opportunities, and other benefits. Edgar W. Couper Fellowship. This fellowship was established in 1988 by family and friends in memory of Edgar W. Couper, a successful businessman and community leader who was committed to public education. Awarded to full-time doctoral students in the EdD program in Educational Theory and Practice, Couper Fellowships are based on high academic standing. Currently, students receive a full-tuition scholarship and a stipend of approximately $14,000. (University fees are paid by the student.) The Marie R. Garcia Fellowship Fund. This fellowship is awarded annually to a Binghamton University graduate student in good academic standing, matriculated in the Graduate School of Education, enrolled full-time or part time. Recipients are selected by the GSE Scholarship Committee using to the following guidelines:

Charles G. and Nancy M. Brink Scholarship. Awarded to a part-time or full-time student in the Childhood & Early Childhood Education program with demonstrated financial need and enrolled in the (upcoming) fall semester. FAFSA required. Karen M. Bromley and Robert G. Bromley Literacy Scholarship. Awarded to a student in literacy education enrolled full-time in the fall. Application required. Recipient selected by faculty of the Literacy Education program.

Graduate Tuition Opportunity Program (GTOP) (university award). Available to U.S. citizens only and it pays tuition for qualified minority students enrolled in a graduate degree program. Former Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge) or HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity Program) students may qualify for tuition scholarships through this program. Dolores Granito Scholarship. Awarded to a female student in Mathematics Education enrolled full-time in the fall semester. No application required. Horace and Jane Hill Scholarship. Awarded to a student in the MAT in Social Studies program enrolled full-time in the fall and able to demonstrate financial need. FAFSA required. Chandler Y. Keller Scholarship. Awarded to a student in social studies education majoring in the study and teaching of history. Student must be able to demonstrate financial need. FAFSA required. Fred L. Kennedy Scholarship. Awarded to a student in social studies education who shows potential to be an excellent teacher and who plans to teach social studies in grades 9-12 in a public high school. Knowles Foundation (external award). Fellowships are awarded to qualified young men and women committed to teaching high school science and/or mathematics in American schools. Recipients must have earned at least a bachelor's degree in a biological science, physical science, mathematics, or engineering before the fellowship begins in June. Maximum Award: five years of professional and financial support, valued at $150,000. Complete information is at Knowles Foundation.
David L. Kushner Endowed Scholarship for Elementary and Secondary Mathematics Education. Awarded to master's degree students in Mathematics Education with demonstrated financial need. FAFSA required. Lyceum Scholarship. Scholarship rotates among students in Graduate School of Education, Decker School of Nursing, and College of Community and Public Affairs. Recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference to a student with demonstrated financial need. FAFSA required. No application required. New York State ARC Scholarships (external award). Several scholarships awarded to college students pursing degrees in special education, physical or occupational therapy, or a field related to intellectual and other developmental disabilities. NYS Math and Science Teaching Incentive Scholarships (external award). New York State (NYS) Math & Science Teaching Incentive Scholarships are offered to encourage students to pursue careers as secondary math and science teachers (grades 7-12). This program provides tuition scholarships to students attending school at the undergraduate and/or graduate degree level in exchange for five years of full-time employment as secondary education math or science teachers. Theodore W. "Ted" Rector Scholarship. Established in 2005 to honor Associate Dean Ted Rector who retired after more than 30 years in schools that preceded today's Graduate School of Education and College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). FAFSA form required. No application required. Scholarships rotate annually among students in Education and each of CCPA's programs. Students must be matriculated, enrolled in a minimum of four (4) credit hours, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. United University Professionals (UUP) Scholarship (external award). Available to full-time graduate students attending a SUNY school. Geraldine S. Weil Memorial Scholarship. This fellowship was established in 1986 by John M. Weil in memory of his wife, an elementary school reading teacher who was committed to the development and education of young people. It is awarded to a full-time student in the Literacy program who plans to teaching reading in an elementary school. Application required.
