Starzak fellowship awarded

Lee Guterman ’81 and Lisa Benson ’81, MA ’83, are grateful for the opportunities that became available to them because of their chemistry education at Harpur College. Wanting to give back, they made a contribution to the Chemistry Department to establish the Michael Starzak Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship to recognize the many contributions Starzak made during his 30-plus-year career at Binghamton. A physical chemist, Starzak retired in 2010.

Alex Berg was the first recipient of the fellowship, which provides research support to an undergraduate student to work in Binghamton’s Chemistry Department over the summer, participating in intensive research activities.

Guterman and Benson were on campus in April to meet Berg at a Chemistry Department colloquium.
