Currently, Binghamton University is not able to offer on-campus temporary housing to visiting faculty and scholars. Therefore, most visiting faculty and scholars obtain housing in the local community. Your host department or program at Binghamton may be able to assist you in locating suitable housing, so you are encouraged to contact them first.
The cost of living in the Binghamton area is significantly lower than that of most major U.S. cities. Binghamton University's Off Campus College Office (OCC) can provide assistance in locating housing and in obtaining information about the local area, and has printed information available that will be helpful to you. OCC also has a web site, http://occ.binghamton.edu/, which includes links to the local newspaper rental listings. Their e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org Public bus transportation to the University is also available from the local community.
If you will need to locate off-campus housing, try to arrive several days early to familiarize yourself with the University and the local area. There are several motels nearby that offer relatively inexpensive lodging while you look for an off-campus apartment.
