ISSS-BU News Circulation
We know your schedules are busy, and it can often be a challenge to keep up with the daily stream of e-mail. With that in mind, after many years of ISSS-BU News being circulated on a weekly basis, we will now be sending out the electronic newsletter on the first Monday of every month. We will continue to share the most current, relevant topics (though issues may be lengthier), and also continue to provide access to current and previous ISSS-BU News editions on our website at: http://www2.binghamton.edu/isss/isss-bu-news/index.html for your reading convenience. We hope that this change is one that facilitates continued information sharing and ease of access as we move to our new circulation schedule. Happy reading!

Are you interested in helping new international students during Orientation and adding Leadership and U.S. Culture Training experience to your resume? Then, sign up to be a Leadership Volunteer!
Leadership Volunteers are a select group of Binghamton University students, who join ISSS staff to welcome new international students during Fall International Student Orientation. Leadership Volunteer recruitment is now underway.
Leadership Volunteers engage in a 3-day training program to help prepare them for their role during Orientation. The training program is organized by the 5 goals of the Orientation program:· Help New Students Feel Comfortable in a New Environment (Networking)
The Training Program includes activities that give all Leadership Volunteers the opportunity to:· Become a Team
During Orientation, Leadership Volunteers greet new international students at Check-In, welcome them during the Introductory Meeting, lead small group discussions, accompany them to all meals, provide reassurance and essential information, and most importantly contribute to a warm and sincere presence during the new international student's first few days on campus. Many new students tell the ISSS how important the Leadership Volunteers were to their initial experience at Binghamton University. Many Leadership Volunteers tell the ISSS how valuable the training was to their own professional and personal development.
Leadership Volunteer Training will take place Monday, August 12th – Wednesday August 14th, 2013. International Student Graduate Orientation starts Thursday August 15th – Friday August 16th, 2013 and International Student Undergraduate Orientationbegin Monday August 19th – Wednesday August 21st, 2013
If you are interested in becoming a Leadership Volunteer, please fill out the form at this link: http://saffairs.binghamton.edu/isss/webforms/LV/ Questions? Contact Associate Director Karen Keefe-Guzikowski at email@example.com
Many students ask if the ISSS ever closes once the Spring semester ends. The answer is; the ISSS is open twelve months throughout the year. Although staff will rotate vacations during the summer, the office remains open for its usual hours except for state and federal holidays. "ISSS-BU News" is likewise published throughout the year.
ISSS office hours do alter slightly in the summer. From May 20 – August 16, the ISSS will be open weekdays from 9:30am to 3:45pm, except Wednesdays when ISSS hours are from 11:30am to 3:45pm. We will resume our regular office hours on Monday, August 19.
Students registered for any summer session may access care at both Decker Student Health Services Center and the University Counseling Center. The student health fee is included in the University fees charged to students at the time of class registration.
Students NOT registered for summer classes will be charged a one time, non-refundable fee of $32.00 . Students who later register for summer classes after paying the summer fee will be charged the per credit student health fee associated with class registration.
Students who have graduated or are not returning in the fall, are no longer eligible for services after May 19, 2013. Decker Student Health Services Center will be glad to provide you with copies of medical records and referrals to local health care providers. Questions? Contact Decker Student Health Services Center at 607-777-2221.
