Binghamton University Philanthropy Incubator award ceremony
BINGHAMTON, NY -- The newly formed Binghamton University Philanthropy Incubator will announce the first round of grant recipients at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the University Downtown Center. The Incubator will award over $12,000 to local nonprofit agencies during a ceremony, which will recognize all of the award recipients as well as acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all involved with the project.
Agencies that qualified for funding, submitted proposals in March. They were expected to meet various qualifications for the grant and serve as a field placement for a Masters in Social Work student or as an internship site for Masters in Public Administration students during the past twelve months.
The Philanthropy Incubator, which is funded by the Campus Compact and Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, is a mechanism to teach students in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs about philanthropy. Under the direction of MPA faculty member David Campbell, students designed and implemented the grant making process, as well as raised funds to support the project.
Last semester, students laid a foundation for the Incubator and made recommendations regarding mission, strategy, revenue generation and organizing structure. This semester, students built on that foundation and worked towards the long-term sustainability of the project.
