Scholarships, Fellowships and Workstudy

Under represented Minority Fellowships

Binghamton University has provided graduate fellowships for outstanding minority students from groups historically under represented in the University's graduate and professional programs. For the 1996-97 academic year, these fellowships carried stipends of $7,500 for students entering master's and doctoral degree programs, $3,000 for summer plus a full tuition scholarship. Candidates for the fellowships must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status; be a Native American, African American, or Hispanic American; and be newly admitted to a graduate program for the fall semester.

Work-Study Graduate Assistantships

Approximately 20 Work-Study Graduate Assistantships are available on a competitive basis to continuing matriculated graduate students who demonstrate financial need. Applicants should submit a Financial Aid Form to the Student Financial Aid and Employment Office. A resume and completed Application for Graduate Work-Study should be submitted to the Graduate School Office. The amount awarded depends on the individual student's financial need, the amount of funds made available to the University, and the amount of aid the student may be receiving from other sources. Applications must be submitted in early May. Contact the Graduate Studies Office at (607) 777-2239 for additional information.

The Office of External Scholarships and Fellowships

The Office of External Scholarships and Fellowships invites students to check out its new website, http://scholarships.binghamton.edu. The site contains information for undergraduates on scholarships, funded summer experiences (i.e. research opportunities and positions with nonprofit groups), and post graduation opportunities.
