Center of Excellence Construction Activities at ITC
There are a number of construction activities related to the Center of Excellence project underway at the Innovative Technologies Complex taking place this month:
• May 18-28 - there will be construction in the Biotechnology Building AVP suite work room to run utilities for the new café. Minimal noise and dust may be associated with this work.
• May 21-30 - new cooling towers and steel to support the towers will be placed on the Engineering and Science Building (E&S).
• At about 7 a.m. Monday, May 21, a crane will be located on the south lawn of E&S west of the main entrance.
• From Tuesday, May 22 through Friday, May 25, the first row of parking spaces in lot J will be barricaded. Disability parking will be available at the Biotechnology Building entrance. Trucks will be delivering steel to the main entrance area of E&S and caution is urged around truck traffic. From 7 a.m.-4 p.m. during this period, the main entrance and rotunda entrance will be closed to allow steel to be delivered and set up on the roof. Building occupants and visitors will be directed to use the Biotechnology entrance or the Engineering and Science loading dock entrance during this time. Signs will to indicate closures/detours. In case of emergency, all the usual entrances and exits will be available and construction activity will be halted. Throughout the steel delivery/placement, the contractor will set up temporary barriers to keep people clear of the E&S main stair, lobby and main corridor under the skylights while steel is lifted. This will not take long and we ask for your patience to keep these areas clear and safe.
• There will be no work Monday, May 28.
• On Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30, the cooling towers will arrive and be placed on the roof. The detours/temporary closures for this activity will be the same at those for the steel delivery notes above.

Library Corridor Refurbishment Begins Monday
Improvements will be made to Library corridors where the English Department offices are located as well as floors above and below. Work will begin after Commencement. The first three weeks will consist of asbestos abatement and ceiling demolition, one week per floor. This means that all offices off of the hallway being abated will not be accessible during that one-week period.
· The second floor abatement will take place the first week after Commencement from May 21-27.
· The first floor will be abated from May 28-June 3.
· The ground floor will be abated from June 4-10.
This renovation will provide new floor tiles, ceilings, improved lighting, fresh paint and new or refurbished doors to the hallways. There will be inconveniences such as paint smells, construction noise, intermittent limited access during the project. Floors will be re-tiled after 3:30 p.m. so that some access can be maintained during the day. The project will be complete before the start of the fall semester. Contact Mary Ann Fletcher with any questions at mfletch@binghamton.edu or 777-5064.
Lecture Hall Concourse Renovation Begins
The north portion of the Lecture Hall concourse will close for renovation following Commencement. The project will renovate the north portion of the Lecture Hall and LH-7. This includes the area from LH-6 to LH-10 and the men's and women's restrooms below. Like the renovation of the south portion which took place last summer, work involves new flooring, ceilings, lighting, doors and furniture. The work will be complete in time for the fall 2012 semester. Contact Jennifer Bourassa with any questions at jbourassa@binghamton.edu or 777-5047.

All Mac computers in the public computing facilities will be upgraded to Apple's Lion (10.7) operating system for the Fall 2012 semester. Older PPC-architecture software is no longer supported on this platform. If you are using older software, such as MagicTool or AppleWorks, please note these packages will not be available in the PODS for Fall 2012. Check the software manufacturer for compatibility with Lion (10.7). If you have any questions about the upgrade to Lion, contact the ITS Help Desk at 777-6420.

Student Requirement to Remain in Courses

If students do not confirm enrollment via BU BRAIN (http://bubrain.binghamton.edu) by Monday, May 21, all their summer courses will be canceled. Relaying this information to your students will help prevent additional changes to your student roster and reduce the number of students who visit the academic advising departments and dean's offices to petition re-entry to a course.
Summer Session Reserve Requests
The Library reminds all that it is time to submit Summer Session(s) reserve requests as soon as possible. If you have any materials on reserve for this semester (Spring 2012) that you would like put on for Summer Session, let the Library know. Wireless Authentication to Change for Fall 2012
Starting in late summer 2012, Binghamton University will be replacing its wireless device registration system (currently based on Bradford's Campus Manager) with a new system. The new system will be based on a more common approach used by many Universities and should make it easier for faculty, staff, and students to register devices on the campus wireless network. No action is necessary at this time. Go to http://its.binghamton.edu for more information on this new system as it becomes available.
Statewide Financial System Update
Due to the new Statewide Financial System, note the following updates/changes to procedures:
• If you receive your bi-weekly paycheck via direct deposit, you will now receive your travel and personal reimbursements in the same manner. Effective immediately, you should check with your bank regarding deposits made into your account. Furthermore, if you receive a hard copy check for your bi-weekly pay, you would also receive a paper check for your travel reimbursements.
• The process of adding a vendor will require longer turnaround time than previously. NYS now must accept the vendor before they can be added to Oracle. See procedures on the Accounts Payable Website at: http://www2.binghamton.edu/accounts-payable/news.html.
• Note that any payments that need to be made between departments on campus or to other NYS agencies are currently on hold. The new Statewide Financial System does not allow for NYS agencies to be added as vendors in their own system. We are working on a process to do this in another way. If you are aware of outstanding payments owed to you or to other state agencies, contact them to inform them of this delay. A communication will be sent out on the new process for inter- and intra-agency billing.

Special Collections Exhibit Showcases Precursor to Coupons
Trade Tokens of the Triple Cities, A Look into the Past is on display through the spring semester on the second floor of the Bartle Library in the Special Collections Department. The exhibit explores the history and use of trade tokens from the Mark Kulikowksi Collection. Issued by merchants throughout this area, the tokens were utilized to advertise and entice customers to patronize their businesses. They offered a monetary value toward merchandise or a product and were the precursor of the modern day coupon. Particularly popular from 1870-1920, when local businesses were being established at a steady pace, the use of tokens began to decline after World War II. Included in the display is a representative selection of historical materials from the Local History Collection utilized to identify and research the history of these trade tokens. Special Collections is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For additional information, go to http://library.binghamton.edu/specialcollections/index.html or e-mail Yvonne Deligato at deligato@binghamton.edu or Jean Green at jgreen@binghamton.edu.
