Harpur College Dean's Distinguished Lecture Nov. 6
Marilynn Desmond, professor of English and comparative literature, will speak on “Transnational Feminism and the Middle Ages” at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in FA-Casadesus. Desmond will explore how “Transnational Feminism,” a theoretical paradigm that developed out of post-colonial theory, works to separate feminist practice from the context of the nation-state in order to develop a vision of “feminism without borders.” Our modern understanding of genders and sexualities can be traced to medieval attitudes, and for that reason, medieval culture has much to contribute to contemporary feminisms in general and transnational feminism in particular. A reception will follow the lecture in the Green Room. To RSVP or for questions, contact Diane Horvath at 777-6799 or dmhorv@binghamton.edu. Co-sponsored by Harpur College Dean’s Office and the Binghamton chapter of the United University Professions.
