Wife of a University contractor among victims


Binghamton University has confirmed that Hong Xiu (Mao) Marsland , one of the victims in last Friday's shooting at the American Civic Association, was the wife of a contractor affiliated with Binghamton University. We extend our deepest sympathy to family, friends and colleagues.

President announces service to honor victims of shooting

President Lois B. DeFleur announces a service to honor those who died or were injured in the April 3, 2009 shooting at the American Civic Association in downtown Binghamton. The service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Grand Corridor of the Fine Arts Building on campus. There will be an opportunity from 3-4:30 p.m. for individuals to express their condolences in writing to be included in a memorial book. The service will end by placing flowers in the Memorial Courtyard adjacent to the Grand Corridor.

 

Student Association sponsors vigil

The Student Association will sponsor a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, to remember the victims of the American Civic Association shooting. The vigil will take place between the Library fountain and the University Union.

Current student’s sister among victims

Binghamton University has confirmed that Parveen Ali, one of the victims in last Friday’s shooting at the American Civic Association, was the sister of a current Binghamton University student. The University’s Counseling Center has reached out to the student to provide support.

Candlelight Memorial on April 9

The Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) of Binghamton University and the Southern Tier Chinese Culture Association (STCCA) will jointly hold a candlelight memorial for the victims of the April 3 shootings at the American Civic Association. The event is open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at the Dickinson Amphitheater located outside between Dickinson Dining Hall and the old University Union on the Binghamton University campus. Donations will be collected at the event to help the families of the victims.

Updates on Victim Campus Connections

In addition to the already identified campus community members injured or killed in the April 3 shooting at the American Civic Association in downtown Binghamton, as the investigation unfolds, the University has learned that more people with affiliations to the University were involved. Maria Zobniw, '70, a Harpur College of Arts and Sciences graduate, was killed. In addition, family members of Roberta King, the deceased ESL teacher, attended classes at Binghamton University. We extend our deepest sympathy to family, friends and colleagues.

Counseling Center, EAP to Offer Forum Today

An open meeting will be held from noon-1:30 p.m. today, April 6, in UUW-324, to discuss Friday's tragedy at the American Civic Association and its impact on the University community.  All are welcome to attend this discussion facilitated by the Counseling Center staff and EAP.
