President sets schedule
University President Lois B. DeFleur will hold Open Hours for the 2005-’06 academic year from 3-5 p.m. on four Wednesdays: Oct. 12, Nov. 9, Feb. 22 and April 5. Visitors should go to her office on the eighth floor of the Couper Administration Building.

Flex Spending Accounts
The 2006 open enrollment period for Flex Spending Accounts continues through Nov. 10.

This program lets employees set aside pre tax money to pay for medically necessary medical, hospital, dental, vision, hearing and prescription drug expenses that are not reimbursed by health insurance or another benefit plan.

The Dependent Care Advantage Account allows workers to set aside pre-tax money for eligible child care, elder care, or disabled dependent care expenses. Employees may be eligible to receive an employer contribution to this account.

Workers must re-enroll in these programs annually. Apply online at www.flexspend.state.ny.us or by phone at 1-800-358-7202.

Research Foundation
As of Oct. 28, Research Foundation payroll check distribution will be handled by the University’s Payroll Distribution Center, in UU-105, adjacent to the Mandela Room.

The Payroll Distribution Center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on RF paydays, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on state paydays (Wednesdays opposite RF pay weeks), and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all other workdays.

The Division of Research, including the RF personnel and payroll department, is scheduled to move to the Innovative Technologies Complex in January. By partnering with the University Payroll Distribution Center, the RF will be able to guarantee centralized payroll check distribution to employees who opt not to participate in direct deposit. A dedicated telephone line will also be provided at the Distribution Center for answers from staff of the RF personnel and payroll office.

RF employees may sign up for direct deposit by visiting or calling the RF personnel and payroll office, 777-4264, AD-208.

Alumni office
To broaden its outreach to the Binghamton University alumni community, the Alumni and Parent Relations Office has made a number of staff changes.

Mary Woolson is now the assis-tant vice president for alumni and constituent relations, serving as the chief liaison to the Alumni Association and working to better integrate the development and alumni relations goals of the University. Rose Frierman is now the director of alumni and parent operations, providing leadership for day-to-day operations of the office, and coordinating the alumni programs, events and communications.

In addition, the reorganization is an exciting opportunity to hire both an associate director, who will focus on external outreach to the University’s 87,000 alumni, and an assistant director, who will address services with campus partners.
