Biomedical research to be conference topic
The Binghamton University
campus will play host to the
first Binghamton Biomedical
Research Conference on March
25. The conference program
appears at http://www.upstate.

contains a link to further details,
including a form for the
submission of abstracts to the
poster session that will conclude
the day-long conference.
Papers presented at other conferences
are eligible for submission.
March 6 is the deadline for
poster abstracts.
Registration for the event
at the Innovative Technologies
Complex on Murray Hill Road is
free, and food and drink will be
served throughout the day.
Annual Purim carnival planned March 2
A Purim carnival will be held
at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in
the East Gym. The holiday commemorates
a time when Persian
Jews were saved from extermination.
A $2 admission includes five
carnival games; a $5 admission
includes all of the rides and attractions.
Both come with all
the Hamentashen (traditional
pastries) you can eat.
The carnival will feature
game booths, music and kosher
munchies for sale. There will be
hot dog- and pie-eating contests
and a Battle of the Bands.
The carnival is a project of the
Chabad House Jewish Center
and is co-sponsored by Alpha
Sigma Phi, Alpha Epsilon Phi,
Hillel-JSU, Jewish Heritage Programs,
Late Nite Binghamton,
the Student Association, Off
Campus College, Sodexho and
most of the residential communities,
and is run in cooperation
with Greek groups and professional
fraternities.
Proceeds from the carnival
will benefit various charities.
Nominations sought for commencement speakers
The University Commencement
Advisory Committee invites
faculty, staff and students
to nominate individuals who
might speak at the University’s
undergraduate commencement
on Sunday, May 21.
Self-nominations are not
permitted. The speaker must
complete his/her degree requirements
by the end of the
spring semester as certified
by the Registrar’s Office. The
Commencement Advisory Committee
will interview nominees
in late April. See http://

May art history tour will go to southern Pennsylvania
The University will sponsor
an art history tour to southern
Pennsylvania from May 4-7.
This trip offers a variety of
sites: the National Civil War Museum,
Gettysburg battlefield,
two of Frank Lloyd Wright’s
homes, historic Mercersburg,
as well as the Palmer Museum
at Pennsylvania State University.
The trip costs $489.

Bearcat Club Summer Fun
Camp, the camps are independent
of the University.
The Summer Fun Camp
(July 10-14) is a coed camp for
children ages 5-10. Campers
will be kept busy with arts and
crafts, swimming, games, lunch
