Spitzer names DeFleur to panel
University President Lois B. DeFleur has been invited to join one of the 13 policy advisory committees that will help guide Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer and Lt. Governor-elect David Paterson in their transition efforts.
DeFleur will join the Education Policy Advisory Group, which includes a diverse group of educators from throughout the state.
DeFleur has been a leader in national higher education groups, including chairing the board of directors of both the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and the American Council on Education – two of the nation’s largest and most prestigious higher education associations.
DeFleur also served as a member of the New York State Blue Ribbon Panel on School Leadership, convened by the New York State Board of Regents, to discuss recommendations for ensuring quality school leaders across the state.
Health insurance rate information
The following are revised health insurance rates for 2007: Empire Plan, individual $22.54, family $92.54; CDPHP, individual $25.48, family $133.21; HMO Blue, individual $55.72, family $174.58; MVP, individual $20.53, family $106.13.
Rates for all employees are the same. The option transfer period has been extended through Dec. 29 with an effective date of Dec. 28.

Leadership development program offered
The Office of Continuing Education and Outreach will offer a non-credit leadership development certificate program during the spring semester.
The experience is designed to create, nurture and sustain the necessary competencies to promote leadership development. Classes will meet from 4-7 p.m. Wednesdays, from Jan. 17 to May 30, in the Public Service Programs Center. Topics will include leadership, communication and business and processes. There will also be a service-learning project.

Leadership conference for girls is Jan. 27
Binghamton University will offer a one-day leadership conference for high school girls on Saturday, Jan. 27.
“Girls Take Charge” will feature interactive workshops, local female leaders sharing their experiences and insights on creating success and making a difference, as well as leadership activities. The students will also participate in a fun and challenging “Project Runway”-type activity at the end of the day where they will use their new skills.
The program will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Public Service Programs Center. The fee of $50 includes all materials and lunch.
