Bryan Adams to perform on campus June 14

Bryan Adams will bring his “Bare Bones” acoustic concert tour to the Anderson Center for the Performing Arts on June 14.

Tickets go on sale at noon Friday, March 5, at the Anderson Center Box Office, on line at anderson.binghamton.edu or by phone at 777-ARTS.

Adams has spent the last three decades making music history. He has sold more than 65 million records and achieved No. 1 status in more than 40 countries. His hits include Cuts Like A Knife, Summer of ‘69, Heaven, Can’t Stop This Thing We’ve Started and (Everything I Do) I Do It For You.

Adams was a part of the Opening Ceremonies for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, singing a duet — Bang The Drum — alongside fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado. 
 



Binghamton University goes to the Oakdale Mall

The University will offer area residents an opportunity to learn more about the campus and what it has to offer during an event from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 6, in the Center Court of the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.

Displays will highlight research, the Think Binghamton campaign, academic offerings, “green” initiatives, alumni and more. There will also be performances by student groups, activities for children and drawings for a variety of prizes.

Globalistas offer program for International Women’s Day

The Binghamton University Globalistas, a group of students, staff and faculty devoted to internationalization in a variety of forms, will present a program at 3 p.m. Friday, March 5, in honor of International Women’s Day.

The program, to be followed by the monthly International Coffee Hour, will take place in the Old Union Hall. Jean Quataert, professor of history, will give a talk titled “Scholarship and Activism in Women’s History.”

There will also be a table with information about Madre, an international human rights organization that works with community-based women’s groups; and a representative from Healthy U, a Vestal business that promotes health and wellness.

University Symphony Orchestra concert March 6

The winners of the University Symphony Orchestra’s Biennial Concerto and Aria Competition will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6, in the Anderson Center’s Osterhout Concert Theater with the University Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Professor Timothy Perry.

The biennial competition was held on Nov. 15, as students competed in the following categories: voice, keyboard, strings and wind/brass/percussion. The judges selected the best performances from each category and the winners and the pieces that they will perform are:

• String Division: Jennifer Chen, cello, Antonin Dvorak’s Concerto in B minor, 1st movement.

• Wind/Brass/Percussion Division: Daniel Fein, trumpet, Arutunian’s Trumpet Concerto.

• Keyboard Division: Jieun Jang, piano, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #3 in C minor, 1st movement.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for faculty, staff and seniors, and free for students.

Foundation Award nominations due March 11

Nominations for a series of Foundation Awards are due to Sara Ballard in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs by March 11.

Nominations should include a typed statement citing specific accomplishments and activities, a resume and completed nomination form.
