Ambassador to speak May 20 at University Forum
R. Nicholas Burns, professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy’s School of Government, will speak at the Binghamton University Forum’s luncheon program Thursday, May 20, at Traditions at the Glen in Johnson City.
Burns will discuss “America’s Future Foreign Policy Challenges.” A luncheon buffet will be available at noon and the program will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Burns served as under secretary of state for political affairs from 2005-2008, leading negotiations on the U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Agreement and a long-term military assistance agreement with Israel. He also was the lead U.S. negotiator on Iran’s nuclear program.
Other positions held by Burns include U.S. ambassador to NATO (2001-2005) and to Greece (1997-2001). During his career at the State Department, Burns was a spokesman for secretaries of state Madeleine Albright and Warren Christopher (1995-97).
He spent five years on the National Security Council as senior director for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Affairs and as a special assistant to President Clinton. Burns served as director for Soviet affairs in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.

Donna Summer to perform Aug. 31 at Anderson Center
Disco queen Donna Summer will perform at the Anderson Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31.
The singer, songwriter and pop culture icon rocketed to international superstardom in the mid-1970s and has sold more than 130 million records worldwide.
The five-time Grammy winner’s hits include Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, She Works Hard for the Money, On the Radio, Heaven Knows, I Feel Love, MacArthur Park and This Time I Know It’s For Real.
At 8 p.m. Saturday, July 24, John Pizzarelli and the Swing Seven will perform at the Anderson Center. Pizzarelli has released more than 20 albums since 1990, including his current Rockin’ In Rhythm, which hit No. 3 on JazzWeek’s Jazz charts.

Blackboard 9.1 previews to take place May 11, 13
Blackboard 9.1 previews will be held from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, in LNG-112 and from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, May 13, in LNG-112. All are welcome.
The Blackboard support team is currently testing Blackboard 9.1. After testing and evaluation, this upgrade will move into production mode and a timeframe for the move to 9.1 will be established.
