University Archives marked for excellence
Archivist Yvonne Deligato will accept the award, which also honors her work in creating help aids, prioritizing preservation needs, gathering and organizing materials and assisting other SUNY schools in developing archival collections.
This is the first year BU will receive the award from the Board of Regents and the New York State Archives. Deligato, BU’s first full-time archivist and a member of the special collection’s staff in the Libraries, is developing a system to update the state and local archives. Deligato said the archival retention schedule established in the 1970s has not been followed and is outdated. Various records were retained and she is now identifying which records should be disgarded. She is also creating standards for an archival system. “I’m honored to be selected for this award,” Deligato said. “It recognizes BU’s commitment towards preserving archival records.”
