Biotechnology entrepreneur to address Harpur Forum
Wilkerson will share his experiences as a medical analyst and researcher, as well as an investor and consultant in the field of healthcare and the hazardous business of commercializing the edge of science. He will begin speaking at about 8 a.m.
In 1990, Wilkerson co-founded Galen Partners, a firm with particular interest in businesses specializing in healthcare information technology, services and devices. The Galen firm believes that “as the powerful influences of regulatory reform, rapid technological innovation and consumer empowerment reshape the healthcare industry, the stage has been set for unprecedented industry growth and an extraordinary future.”
With an undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Utah State University and a doctorate from Cornell, Wilkerson launched his career as a group product director for Ortho Diagnostics Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company. He then joined White Weld & Co. as a healthcare security analyst, and from there moved to a position as vice president specializing in medical analysis and research for Smith Barney.
In 1980, Wilkerson joined Channing, Weinberg & Co., Inc. as a senior officer and purchased control of the firm’s healthcare consulting division to form the Wilkerson Group, one of the industry’s leading healthcare consultancies. He now serves as general partner of Galen partners.
Wilkerson is founder of the E.L. Rose Conservancy in Pennsylvania, a director of the Atlantic Health Systems and the Harding Land Trust, president of the Museum of American Folk Art and a member of the Corning University Council and Cornell Plantations. He also currently serves on the boards of Stericycle, Inc. and several of Galen’s privately held companies.
The Harpur Forum serves business, professional and community leaders by bringing nationally known authorities to speak at Forum functions throughout the year.
