INSIDE BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY
Binghamton students receive Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence
Award recipients were Jonathan Blum, Floral Park; Erik Colon, Brooklyn; Justin Hoch, Canandaigua; Jennifer Kwok, Corona, Calif.; Clare Marks, Belle Harbor; David McDonald, Long Valley; Megan Stubbendeck, East Amherst; Heather Ungleich, Fulton; and Marisa Wong, Hollis.
“We are delighted that our students have been selected for these prestigious awards,” said President Lois B. DeFleur. “Our students are the among the best in the SUNY system. We are very proud of their accomplishments - those in their academic fields as well as their leadership and service work on campus and in the community.”
“These students are among the state university’s best and brightest,” Chancellor Robert L. King said. “Their commitment not only to academic excellence but also to serving the wider community indicates they are likely to emerge as New York’s future leaders.”
Nominees were screened through a rigorous selection process. First, a campus selection committee reviewed outstanding graduating students. The surviving nominations were then forwarded to the Office of University Life in Albany for a second review. Finalists were then recommended to the chancellor. In addition to grade point average, candidates must have demonstrated significant contributions to the greater campus community.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Each student received a framed certificate and a medallion that may be worn at Commencement.
