INSIDE BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY
Katie Bodine, a junior environmental studies major, points out the convenient drop-off points for recyclable materials on the Binghamton Campus. The display was part of the America Recycles Day observation. Displays and information included a waste stream analysis of trash from the Union, a donation area for CHOW, information on products with recycled content that the University uses and a trash mountain. During the afternoon event, students could sign a petition supporting recycling efforts in the state of New York, learn more about on-campus recycling and composting programs or purchase ornaments made from recycled glass. The recycling program at Binghamton started in 1991 in support of the University’s commitment to the conservation of natural resources and waste reduction. Recycling bins have been placed in residence hall rooms and drop-off sites have been established on campus to make it easier for students to take part in the program. America Recycles Day is a nationwide effort to encourage recylcing and the use of recycled products.
