Harry Belafonte to give Briloff Lecture
Belafonte has been recognized with the Albert Einstein Award from Yeshiva University, the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Prize, the Kennedy Center Honors for excellence in the performing arts and the Acorn Award from the Bronx Community College for his work with children.
The first recipient of the Nelson Mandela Courage Award, Belafonte was honored at the White House in 1994 with the National Medal of Arts from President Bill Clinton for his contributions to the nation’s cultural life. Belafonte has also received honorary degrees from City University of New York, Spellman College in Atlanta, Tufts University, Brandeis University, Long Island University, Bard College and Columbia University.
The lecture series is named in honor of Abraham Briloff, who was Binghamton’s first presidential professor. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Binghamton in recognition of his commitment to imbue students with a zeal for ethics.
Through his writings and lectures, Briloff has served as an ethical conscience for the business and accounting professions, emphasizing the need for ethical business practices and influencing others to use the highest ethical standards as the basis of their professional work and personal conduct.
