Earth Day festival planned
The event will include food, fun, music and environmental education. Visitors are invited to bring a deposit can or bottle to trade for items made from recycled materials, including pens made from recycled paper and plastic; pencils made from denim, newspaper and money; magnets made from recycled cardboard; and globe balloons made from bio-degradable rubber. Give-away items for the event were provided by the Office of the Vice President of Administration.
The festival will also be an opportunity to purchase t-shirts, tote bags, back sacks and plastic bag dispensers made from recycled plastic and cotton; globe earrings and key chains made from recycled glass; denim notepaper; bike chain picture frames and key chains; and night lights made out of computer circuit boards. A raffle will be held for two purses made out of retired New York license plates.
A variety of musical groups and performers are scheduled throughout the festival with the RecycleMania Dorm Awards will be presented at 1 p.m. Other activities include a waste steam analysis and the creation of a trash mountain by the Student Environmental Action Coalition; the construction of a car made out of recyclables by the Art Department and a Green Car from Honda with a representative available to answer questions.
