Binghamton places in final round of national accounting competition
Juniors Mitch Melfi, Matthew Mahar and Alexandra Grant, and sophomores Brendon Hitchcock and Eric Hu traveled to New York City for the Jan. 20 competition at the company’s offices.
The Binghamton team was one of five chosen to compete in the final round. First place went to Louisiana State University.
To reach the finals, the team first won a campus-wide competition and then moved on to compete against schools from across the country, said John Barden, lecturer and coordinator of the xAct program.
In addition to having their expenses paid for their two-day trip to New York City, each team member will receive a $2,000 prize.
This is the second year of the competition, but the first year Binghamton made it to the national finals. Indiana University took home top honors the first year.
