Math professor to receive honorary degree
Zacks, who has been a member of the Binghamton faculty since 1980 and previously taught at Kansas State and Case Western Reserve universities, has made trips to Israel each summer for the past several years to conduct graduate courses in statistics. The honorary degree, the highest award the university can give, recognizes the impact his work has had on the fields of science and engineering.
“The recognition means a lot to me and my family. I was told that the competition was very, very tough and was happy to be chosen,” he said. “I’ve been working in statistics since 1955 when I was a graduate student in Israel.”
Zacks is the author of six books and numerous papers reflecting his interest in solving applicable problems. He is a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
