INSIDE BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY
University joins research advocacy group
In advocating for increased federal support for scientific research, the coalition works in concert with the Association of American Universities, the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and other professional and advocacy associations. University members encourage Congress and the admini-stration to provide increased federal support for research in the natural, physical, social and health sciences. They also help policy leaders understand that federal funds play an important role in educating students, fostering innovation and generating economic development.
In addition to twice-monthly sessions to discuss strategic direction, develop initiatives and share information, the coalition holds seminars throughout the year to explain science issues to lawmakers on Capitol Hill. The coalition also organizes a biannual breakfast during which it honors influential lawmakers, an annual national media roundtable and periodic member sign-on letters to Senate and House budget committees.
