Kiplinger cites BU as No. 2 value in U.S.
Selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities, the schools on the Kiplinger list were ranked according to academic quality, cost and financial aid. According to the Kiplinger rankings, Binghamton is one of the best values for both in-state and out-of-state students. Binghamton ranked second when considering the best value for out-of-state students and ninth in the nation when considering in-state tuition only.
“We’re pleased to see Kiplinger’s confirm Binghamton University’s national reputation for quality,” President Lois B. DeFleur said. “It is a great indication that we continue to be successful in offering our students an excellent education at a reasonable price.”
Binghamton, one of eight SUNY schools on the list, appears above institutions such as the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Maryland at College Park. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill received the top ranking.
“Schools that top Kiplinger’s 100 Best Values in Public Colleges are noteworthy for their combination of top-flight academics and affordable costs,” the editors of the monthly magazine wrote.
This ranking comes on the heels of U.S. News and World Report’s recent survey, which ranks Binghamton University among the top 50 public universities in the nation. Binghamton — now rated among the elite top 50 for nine consecutive years — was ranked 30th, up two places from last year.
In addition, Binghamton received praise as being the “premier public university in the Northeast” in the 2006 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges.
