Lawyer named to University Council
The council reviews budget requests, makes regulations for student conduct and reviews plans for improving faculty, staff and the physical plant.
Schaewe earned her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Miss. She worked for two years for the Missouri Court of Appeals, researching and drafting opinions on topics including civil and criminal procedure, contracts, corporate law, property, torts and malpractice. She was then an associate for Ball, McDonough & Artz, PC, responsible for commercial and residential real estate transactions.
Schaewe served as assistant corporation counsel for the City of Binghamton from 1994 to 1997, responsible for drafting ordinances and local laws for City Council and CSEA negotiations. She also handled litigation for the city.
As a partner with Pearis, Kline, Barber & Schaewe, she serves as town attorney for Dickinson, Nanticoke, Lisle and Sanford and as village attorney for Whitney Point, Deposit and Windsor. Schaewe is also deputy town attorney for the Town of Kirkwood and provides counsel and litigation services to the towns of Union and Sidney and the Village of Johnson City.
She is president of the Broome County Board of Ethics and a member of the Third Department Judicial Steering Committee, the New York State Bar Association, the Broome County Bar Association and the Harpur Forum.
