Slam poet to open readers’ series
Smith’s latest book, Teahouse of the Almighty, was named a National Poetry Series selection.
The Center for Writers has a slate of readings, workshops and conversations with editors planned for February, March and April. All are free and open to the public.
Other participants will include poet, playwright and radio host Grace Cavalieri; prize-winning fiction writer Jack Driscoll; and the winners of the Binghamton Book Award in Fiction (Toni Graham) and Poetry (Christopher Bursk).
Participants in the Readers’ Series will conduct a workshop from 2-4 p.m. the afternoon of their reading in PSPC-E/F. Writers should sign up by e-mailing cwpro@binghamton.edu. The evening readings are scheduled for Tuesdays at 8 in S1-149.
The Readers’ Series schedule is: Feb. 13, Patricia Smith; March 20, Grace Cavalieri; March 27, Jack Driscoll; April 17, Toni Graham; April 24, Christopher Bursk.
The Writing Life series will open with Timothy Green, editor of Rattle, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 in PSPC-E/F.
Other editors visiting in the series include Mark Budman of the Vestal Review on Wednesday, March 21; and Adele Kenney of Tiferet: A Journal of Spiritual Literature on Wednesday, April 25. Both will also be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in PSPC-E/F.
