Race honors alumnus, a fallen Marine
The Binghamton University crew team held the inaugural John McKenna Memorial 5K Run on March 24 at Binghamton’s Recreation Park and drew 260 competitors. John J. McKenna IV, a 1998 Binghamton graduate, New York State Police trooper and Marine Corps captain, was killed in Iraq in August 2006. Proceeds from the race, which raised $6,430, will go toward the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, NYS Trooper Scholarship Fund and a boat named after McKenna.
