INSIDE BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY
President cancels holiday reception, encourages donations to CHOW
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, there were many reports of families seeking help from local charities as economic conditions worsen.
The Binghamton University community has always been generous during the holiday season through the Physical Facilities and Parking Services support of Toys for Tots, the Student Association’s Holiday Drive, the Residential Life Hand to Heart gift bags and other drives. However, in these difficult times, I believe that we can — and should — do more.
Thus, I have decided to cancel the University’s holiday reception on Dec. 17, and I am asking that we all support the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) with food donations. Collection barrels will be placed throughout the campus during the weeks of Dec. 8 and 15. I appreciate your commitment to the University and our community and ask that you please be generous so that others can have a better holiday.
Lois B. DeFleur
