Former professor Nielson dies
David G. Nielson, an associate professor in the History Department from 1971-82, died Dec. 3 in Bennington, Vermont, following a brief illness. He was 80.
Nielson, a Rochester native and World War II veteran, earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas before receiving his doctorate from Binghamton.
He was interested in black American history and wrote a book titled Black Ethos: Northern Urban Negro Life and Thought, 1890-1930.
Nielson is survived by his wife, Gladys, a sister and nieces and nephews. A funeral was held last month in Bennington.
