Homecoming scheduled for Oct. 2-4

By : By Sara Tompkins

Homecoming 2009 will take place on campus Friday-Sunday, Oct. 2-4.

The annual event gives alumni a chance to relive their college years and reconnect with fellow graduates, faculty and staff. The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations welcomed more than 1,000 alumni and their families back to campus at last year’s events.

The weekend will include special events for the classes of 1959, 1969, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1999 and 2009. Also, Homecoming will have gatherings for young alumni (2004-08), and philosophy and geology majors. In addition, there will be reunions for Telefund callers, Call Center student information assistants and Rosefsky Scholars. Homecoming will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dickinson Community, the 30th anniversary of the Caribbean Student Association, the 25th anniversary of the apartment communities and the 20th anniversaries of Pi Lambda Phi and the African Student Organization.

A Friday evening reception at the University Art Museum will honor the 2009 Alumni Association Recognition Award recipients. Afterward, view the exhibit “Full-Spectrum: Natural Fibers, Quilts & the Textile Arts,” complemented by a cocktail reception with light hors d’oeuvres. A wine and cheese reception will take place under the tent at the Events Center parking lot on Friday night.

Tailgate ’09, one of the largest events planned for Homecoming, will take place at the Events Center parking lot from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. This gathering gives alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community a chance to grill and catch up with old friends. See student floats make their way around campus during the Brain Train Parade — a Homecoming tradition.

After the tailgate, the men’s soccer team will play Rhode Island. A fireworks display will follow the game. Alumni can purchase tickets online in advance for $3; tickets for those who do not pre-register are $5 at the box office.
