Binghamton University offers Summer Art Institute for youth

The Binghamton University Office of Continuing Education and Outreach will offer two programs as part of the Summer Art Institute being held August 6–10, in the Public Service Programs Center (PSPC) building on campus.

“Art from Around the World,” a program for children ages 8-12, will explore a different world culture each day. Projects will include: bamboo paintings, calligraphy and origami from China, wychianki paper cutting from Poland, animal masks from Africa, Native American sand paintings and beaded necklaces, and batik designs from India.

“Futuristic Art,” a program for 13-18 year olds, will utilize various recycled materials and mediums to create art. Projects will include: printmaking; painting with alternative materials; creating 3-D sculptures; creating futuristic creatures, cities, animals; and creating inventions that will help improve the community.

The institute will culminate with an art reception open to family and friends at noon Friday, August 10.

The program costs $159 and includes art materials and the reception. Register online at http://continuinged.binghamton.edu, by fax at 607-777-4544 or by calling 607-777-6857 to request a registration form.
