Binghamton University nursing students conduct annual disaster drill

The annual disaster drill coordinated by Binghamton University’s Decker School of Nursing students, faculty and staff will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, in the University Events Center.

Over 300 are expected to participate in the drill, which will simulate a tornado strike and evacuation of a Vestal nursing home.  The Events Center will act as a temporary medical center, as responders will be pulled in from the American Red Cross, Vestal EMS, Susquehanna Nursing home, Metropolitan Emergency response team, UHS Triage Nurse team, Harpur’s Ferry and the New York State University Police at Binghamton.

During the mock disaster drill participants will utilize the Incident Command System (ICS) as an education tool.  ICS is a standardized, all hazard incident management system used throughout the United States.
