Binghamton University's student run ambulance service wins EMS agency of the year award

Binghamton University’s student volunteer ambulance service, Harpur’s Ferry, has been named Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency of the Year by the New York State EMS Council. The award was presented to members of Harpur’s Ferry at the 2005 Vital Signs Conference held October 15 in Rochester, New York.

Harpur’s Ferry was selected from among a wide array of New York State certified volunteer and career EMS agencies, including fire departments, police departments, hospital emergency departments, EMS councils, dispatch organizations and first responder units, as well as a field of 1,127 ambulance services statewide. The Binghamton University ambulance service was recognized as a model of excellence in EMS for its consistency and exemplary performance when providing pre-hospital emergency medical care.

Harpur’s Ferry has been a volunteer student-run ambulance service at Binghamton University for over 30 years. Over 150 students currently serve the University campus community, providing emergency care to faculty, staff and on and off campus students.
