Winners of NYSEG case competition announced

Winners of the annual NYSEG Challenge MBA Case Competition were recently announced at a ceremony on the Binghamton University campus. Team members Rehna Tawde, Yun Lee, His-Hau Bau, Hiteshchen Thakkar, Sulabh Mathur, and Hsing-Yi Chou took top honors.

Sponsored by NYSEG, the annual competition brings together second-year master of business administration students from the University’s School of Management for a test of their skills in the analysis and presentation of business cases.

Thirteen teams of MBA students were given the same business case to review and, after a week of preparation, participated in first-round judging earlier this month. Three teams were then selected to move forward to the final round where a panel of judges, selected from the business community, evaluated the finalists’ presentations.

Judges were Michael Eastman, vice president of corporate development for NYSEG; Stephen Van Nordstrand, executive vice president at Raymond Corporation; Michael J. DeStefano, partner in the New York metropolitan area of Ernst and Young LLP; Laurie Linn, president of Communique Design and Marketing, Inc. and John Saraceno, senior vice president at BSB Bank & Trust.

In selecting the winning team, judges considered three factors: content of the presentation, delivery and communication skills, and how well the team handled follow-up questions.
