Binghamton University students win Wasson leadership awards

Two Binghamton University students have been awarded William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Awards by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).

Jaime Rodriguez, a senior studying financial economics, and Jordan Allen, a senior studying history and studio art, were honored April 2 at the NIRSA National Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.

Named after NIRSA’s founder, Dr. William N. Wasson, the awards recognize outstanding undergraduate and graduate students who are active participants, employees or volunteers in collegiate recreational sports departments. Criteria for the awards include self-improvement through leadership, academic success, activities, volunteerism and promoting inclusion.

Rodriguez and Allen were selected from more than 100 national candidates. Both were recognized for their efforts as building supervisors for Binghamton University’s Campus Recreational Services, where they have been employed since their freshman year. Allen was also recognized for his efforts as lifeguard for Campus Recreational Services.
