Ballroom blitz this weekend on Binghamton University campus

Over 200 ballroom dancers will swirl over the Binghamton University campus Saturday, February 22, as part of Ballroom Dance Revolution 2003, a competitive event hosted by the Binghamton University Ballroom Dance Team and the team from the State University at Stony Brook.

Competition will start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday in the University Union Mandela Room, and run through the evening. Over 30 Binghamton University students and alumni will compete against dancers from 15 universities and colleges, including Yale, Harvard, Cornell and the University of Delaware. Binghamton University dancers are expected to shine, having recently placed at the national championship, the Ohio Star Ball.

The event will also feature professional performances at 8:30 p.m. by the American Latin champions Louis Van Amstel and Katarzyna Kozak, and a performance of the mambo by the Abakua Dance Company. Binghamton University’s own breakdance troupe, the Nervous Breakdown, is also scheduled to perform.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 with University identification. For more information, contact competition coordinator Judith Aquino at 917-734-9067 or visit sa.binghamton.edu/~ballroom.
