Binghamton University offers workshop on cultural differences in parenting

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services, and the Division of Human Development of the School of Education and Human Development will co-sponsor a workshop titled “Five Keys for Being a Successful Parent in the United States,” at 1 p.m. Monday, October 7, in room 133 of the University Union. The workshop is free and open to the public.

The workshop will explore the interaction of cultural differences in childcare and United States family law.  Philomena Stomato, assistant county attorney for Broome County, will make a presentation on family law. Wazir Mohamed from Guyana and Lindah Mhando from Tanzania, both doctoral candidates at the University and parents, will offer insight on issues relating to childcare cultural differences. Mohamed and Mhando will share strategies to assist international students and their families as they adjust to living in the United States.
